Fly Tying Social

Tuesday 4th March, 2025 saw a good sized gathering of PDFAA members come together to tie flies, share flies, show their stuff and share their excitement for the coming season.

The evening at Plymouth Telecom Club, Manadon was felt a success. 

Our Association is fortunate to have as a Full Member Andy Cottam, England Fly Fishing Captain and with multiple team caps.

Andy brought with him his extensive fly tying kit, described the competition rules and how it influences fly patterns and he tied up a handful of his successful favourites.

Media Officer, Graeme Webster tied some nymphs and shared how he has overcome the challenges of using non-animal based materials to tie his flies.

Other members brought in tackle curiosities to discuss and a book swap.

Big thanks to Andy for giving his creations away, and all members who attended. It was a really enjoyable evening and something we plan to repeat to kick off the season in the future. The only problem was, we were chatting so much we forgot to take photos!!!

Tight lines for the coming season and remember, the season proper kicks off on Saturday!
